Cable-Stayed Bridge Concept
A function cannot properly operate without form, but in order for a project to feel "unique", the form should only work with the right function. For this project, the goal is to combine both form and function to create a 190 foot span pedestrian bridge with a section of it capable of clearing a 30' wide by 40' high opening.
The first part of this project is to find 3 examples of static bridge designs and recreate them as conceptual designs.
The second part of this project is to find 3 everyday objects with relatively unique motions and to sketch their basic concepts.

3 x 3 Grid Analysis
Preliminary Designs
Based upon the nine concepts that I've come up with on the grid analysis, I have come come up with two preliminary designs. The first design is a section of the bridge set on a hinge mechanism, connected to a piston that would push on one side with counterweights to lift the longer side up. The second design, which is also a hinge mechanism, is instead pulled upward by a drawbridge system using pulleys.
